This is the last short article before my book, The Crucible's Gift: 5 Lesson's from Authentic Who Thrive in Adversity, launches on April 23rd (Kindle version now). I can say without a doubt; this is the most frightening thing I have ever done. Getting married? Nope! Becoming a dad, four times? Nope! Well, a little. Moving countries three times? Nope!
The fear that I feel now bases itself squarely on the notion of rejection. This fear is so visceral that I occasionally burp it back up. Too vivid? Probably.
The point is that it impacts me daily, hourly and by the minute as the lead up to the launch occurs. The number of what-ifs that revolve around the potential rejection of my thoughts is palatable. The fact is, this guy graduated high school with a 2.5 GPA, University with a 2.4 GPA and my MBA with a bit better 3.4 GPA. But the track record of academic success was never laid to provide the confidence to get a PhD., and more significantly write a book.
So Why???
For me, the choice of fear paralysis was very plausible when it came to writing the book, but I had two paths to run. One away from the fear, meaning don't write the book. And two, into the fear. Like many things in my life, I chose to lean into the fear. The point is that for many of us, fear is the ultimate factor when faced with making a life choice.
So today, take a minute and think about what is really holding your back from moving forward on that goal that seems too daunting. What is the cause of that emotional barrier and can you simply lean into the fear that you have previously been leaning away from?
